There are lots of ways that you can track your progress. These are some of the ways that I do it.
This episode was supposed to be a guide to getting started with using Cronometer to track macros and calories. After far more rewrites of my script than I care to think about, I’ve postponed it to at least next week. If you’d like to get started with Cronometer now, here is a link. Using it doesn’t cost anything and helps me out. (Thanks!): http://shrsl.com/28jyt
Instead, I took a walk around the property and talked about my non-lifting and diet plan for this week. By the end of the week, I should have my garden ready to go. With the extra time on my hands due to the COVID situation and a little extra money from the stimulus, I was able to get the lumber I need to build proper raised beds.
There are a lot of ways to track your progress and which ones you use will depend on your goals. Some of the ones I use are:
- Tracking bodyweight – I weigh myself daily but focus on a 7-day rolling average. Daily weigh-ins, in my experience, will eventually help overcome stressing so much about any single, or even several, measurements. You come to realize that it is the longer-term trend that is important.
- Tracking body measurements – I record weekly measurements of several body parts (arms, legs, waist, and etc.). If you are going to use only 1, I’d recommend waist.
- Tracking stress levels, sleep quality, fatigue
- How do your clothes fit?
- How do you feel?
- Are you completing your workouts consistently? Are you hitting your macro and calorie goals? – You can’t always control your outcomes but you can certainly control your actions.
- Take photos every month or so. These provide a great way to allow you to be a bit more objective about your progress when compared to looking in the mirror. They also allow you to look further back and realize that even if your progress has stalled in recent weeks, you’ve likely made huge progress.
